wow, what a difference in weight. I just did my first 3 day with my new zpack exo pack and 20 dg. sleeping bag. combine weight 28.14 oz. With a winter total weight of 12 lbs. minus food and water.
I'm 65 now and I'm been hiking the AT for 3 yrs, Since I'm up to the Whites now ultralite is getting even more important.
I just wanted to thank all the hikers who are willing to share their knowledge on Whiteblaze. I'm always looking at what 10-k is buying and Sgt. Rock. Wish 10-K would post his gear list for different seasons.

I was only the 2nd exo pack that Joe had sold. I used it for the first time this weekend. One of the corners (stays) fell apart after just a couple miles, but I was able to limp through the rest of the weekend. Had I been on something bigger than just a weekend trip I might have been screwed. I emailed Joe and he said he has beefed up the diameter of the stays and the way they are placed in the slots.

I gotta send my "beta version" back for some modifications.

I'm not sold on this "exo design". At first was concerned with comfort, with the stays digging into my back, but I am over that. The pack felt VERY good on my back. I am still concerned with the carbon stay connections. I assume Joe will make the need modifications.

Can anyone tell us how the exo felt with 25 or 30lbs in it? How does it compare to a "traditional" internal frame pack at that load? I love the concept of a real frame in a UL pack, it's definitely on my list for when I've got cash to throw around.

I have not had a chance to use mine since I got the "beefed-up stays". The couple winter, social trips required too much weight, so I took my ULA Catalyst. I will be using the Exo for a 5-6 day section into Damascus just before Trail Days.

Or at least the top ten... lol... My Carbon stay broke before I got to Slaughter Gap on my way thru the Duncan Ridge Trail(Georgia Loop)... Re-Grouped, and packed frameless... Steep learning curve 4sure... But I can't even imagine going back to a pack with a frame again(lucky you ShutterBug ... Joe bent over backwards(insert snarky comment here) to fix the problem, even tho I was good going frameless... So he sent me some other of his goodies... Class act people... Yes, I know how hard that is for the 10K(not you brother) posters here to get it... But it happens...

I have a 2 week trip (High Sierra Trail + a loop back) coming up in the summer with no resupply, and my baseweight is about 10lbs. I'm estimating about 20lbs of food, another 5 for consumables/iceaxe/microspikes. Do you guys think the pack could handle 35lbs for a couple of days?

I saw my first Exo on the AT just before Hawk Mtn shelter, less than 20 miles in. The owner had already broken one of the carbon fiber stays. Kudos to everyone on the cutting edge but the exo seems to haven't pushed the limits a bit too much. I will stick to my nice little frameless until this concept is optimized a bit more.

How long ago was this? Seems like the early models went a little too light on the frame.
