I have a few questions regarding applying permethrin to clothing and gear:
1) For mixing one's own, what is the appropriate concentration? The Sawyer stuff is 0.5%, and I have read anything from 0.83% to 2.0% for the military protocol.
2) Which particular products are suitable for using to dilute and dip? I have read that people have used up to the 36.8% concentrate, but I have also read that some of these are petroleum based (for the inert ingredients) and should not be used for clothing.
3) Any materials that do not make sense to treat, either because they will not retain the permethrin or because they could be compromised by the treatment? Specifically, I believe natural fabrics like wool are fine, as would be nylon and polyester. On the other side of the spectrum, I cannot imagine that the treatment would be effective on a polycro sheet. Is that correct? What about Tyvek, silnylon, cuben, etc?
Thanks in advance for your help.
