Default Hardware cloth pot stand for wood burning stove

Last night I redesigned my wood burning stove and built a new one. I was using an old can of some kind that was two inches tall as my pot stand on top. I am looking to use hardware cloth as a pot stand this time around because I had trouble efficiently getting the flame to the bottom of the pot with the cut up can. Has anyone else used this configuration? I used a 2 inch tall piece of hardware cloth but found most of the flames escaping out the side. Should I lower the height of the cloth to 1.5 or 1 inch? Should I look to make a combination of can with a hardware cloth top? I'll fool with it more later today on my own, but any help from past experience would be great.

It's funny but I just assembled 2 empty one qt paint cans, some wire and other supplies to make a wood burner - I've cooked on a friends a little soup can wood burner and used it a couple of times but am not a regular - I'd be interested if you could post a picture of your creation

I reduced the pot stand down to 1.5 inches using a piece of half inch hardware cloth last night. The pot stand goes around the stove about 80 percent of the way. I got these results:

With can style pot stand: averaged about an 11 minute boil time.
With hardware cloth pot stand(2 inches): boil time was 10 minutes.
With hardware cloth pot stand(1.5 inches): my first burn boiled in only 5 minutes

If I get time today I may make another pot stand only and inch tall and see what happens. I'll hunt down my camera also and get some pictures of mine.

Here are some pictures essientially of what mine looks like. Mine does not detach at the top like this one does and the cloth pot stand is only three squares tall. I also cut off the top horizontal bar and folded down the pieces to make a better pot stand, like the last picture, but I folded mine inward and they are only .5 inches long.
