    Default Gear list shake down

Getting my gear list for a 5 day section hike starting next week, Going to be starting at springer and going to approx neels gap of farther. I'm farily experienced hiker but more of an overnighter than a multi day guy to to work and my job. I need to invest in gear grams of something but here's what I got so far.

    *PACKING/SLEEP
    -GG vapor trail - 36.33oz
    -tyvek gc- 2.63
    -neo air- 9.35
    -stakes/guyline 3.14
    -pack liner 2.01
    - bivy 6.49
    -Extra clothes 26.42
    -tarp 7.30
    -15 deg bag 34.46

    *Kitchen
    -Stove/pot 3.10oz
    -spoon 0.18
    -coozie 0.71
    -fuel 9.10

    OTHER
    -Headlamp 3.84oz
    -Steripen 5.47
    -FAK 5.5
    -raingear 10.0

that 166.03 oz or just over ten pounds with everything but what im wearing and my food (~1.25 lbs per day of food) Gimme some feedback

and in an ideal world the vapor trail is way too much pack for your setup. Something like a ULA CDT would be the heaviest you'd need, or a zpack if you want the lighter option, but that might force the cutting of some of the extra clothes.

    cool stove.

Unless you plan on losing a lot of weight on this trip, you might need a bigger pot and more food

I've been struggiling looking for a new pack. I've wanted a z pack for years but I'm stll a little scared of frameless. THe GG vapor trail has done me well over the last 3 or 4 years but i'm ready to go lighter. As far as the extra clothes I may ditch the puffy jacket if the weather holds the way it looks on the forcast. I think I will be sweating in my montbell down hugger 1 at 45deg is nighttime temps.

what's your weight. body fat and miles planned per day looking like? what's your current level of activity? I'd recommend 1.75-2.25 unless there's something I'm missing

Don't be afraid of frameless. Just don't try to haul weight in one.

1.5 should be fine for a 4 day. my hunger don't kick in till day 10. i don't know my fat to body weight of level of activity crap, but if i took 2 lb's a day i would bring home 2lb's of food after 10 days i carry 2.5 (winter +3.0)
I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.

Why is everyone so concerned with the weight of the food that the OP is carrying? Isn't it the number of calories that matter? If he can get the calories that he needs for 1.25 pounds, why are you insisting that he carry 2 pounds?

Im 5'8" 180 lbs muscular not too much fat and do cardio 4 times a week and lift weight 5 days a week. I'm with karl, If I brought 2.25 lbs a day I'd be bringing home extra too. I've never done a ten day trip but I think i'd do 1.75-2 max. Just stocked up on food gonna weight it all out and see what can do

You won't need 5 days to get from Springer to Neels, imo. This being said, I would either add the approach trail or go ahead and plan for a pick up further up the line.

You could possibly go with a lighter bag and then just plan on wearing some of your clothes to sleep in. You have to take the extra clothes anyway, put them on double-duty. Could drop a 1/2# there.

yea we are def doing the approach trail. debating weather to park at BH reese near neels or possibly going to hogpen gap. is that reasonable with 5 days 4 nights of hiking with 2 intermediate hikers and a novice

your hiker appetite will kick in faster than someone who has more body fat or is less active.

3,000 a day sounds like very little, unless you plan on doing very low mileage. I'm going on a 4 day group trip and planning about 1.75/day for 12 miles a day or so. I'll lose a pound or two.

jesus, get off the food bit. He won't starve on a 5 day hike.

I would take at least a small roll of duct tape or blister first aid. If your feet aren't used to multi day hikes, you might get some blisters. and what is FAK?

    First Aid Kit.

If you are unsure about what you need, and since you are going to be in the area anyway, have the folks at Mountain Crossings at Neels take a look at your pack. Either before you start or when you get there. They are experienced hikers and do this multiple times every day.
