    Default Cat Stove/Foster's Can Problem

I am going to be using a cat stove on my upcoming thru-hike attempt and decided I wanted to try to use a Foster's Beer can for my pot. The issue I have run into is the bottom lip of the can is just about the same circumference as the top of the cat stove so it doesn't sit very securely on top of it. I find it makes it difficult to make a good seal so the stove can work efficiently. Also increases the likelihood that I will spill the food I am cooking.

Has anyone come up with a good solution to this or am I the only one who has this problem? Is there another can that might work better with the cat stove?

    Appreciate any advice!

Get a deviled ham can, do not open, cut half dollar size hole in bottom, remove contents. The can should sit on bottom of ham spread can.

I can't help you with this, other than to say it's why I've always preferred short and wide pots to tall and narrow ones.

Use a couple spokes and lay them in an X pattern across the stove.Dimple one of the spokes at the halfway point to allow the other to pass unencumbered.Or just build a pop can stove.

You could always make a ring out of hardware cloth for a pot support.

I don't think the pot stand is the problem. If I'm reading this correctly, the diameter of the can is too close to the diameter of the stove, making it unstable. The super cat is designed to be it's own pot stand... how about making a cone shaped windscreen that would double as a stabilizer closer to the top of the can?

I just reread Ken's post about the deviled ham can and get it this time. This is a great idea!

Thanks for this Zelph! I think I am going to try your adapted can.

Again, I appreciate everyone else's advice too.
