I'm assuming that he's referring to the ordeal that Bill put himself through, both physically and mentally, and the fact that he took Orient along, who didn't have any say in whether or not he wanted to do the hike. Rest assured, Orient wouldn't have been happier doing anything else. He was trained to guide and he loved to do it. Bill commented that Orient missed hiking and camping a whole lot more than he did once they were done with the AT.

I was fortunate enough to hear Mr. Irwin speak at a church one town over from Monson, Me. in 2008 when I hiked the Hundred Mile Wilderness. It was worth losing half of a hiking day (and I got to spend the night hammocking next to an empty shelter - solitude in the "Wilderness" - it was my only night camping alone.
