Default Pearisburg-Front Royal (weather) starting in late August?

What kind of temperatures do you think I would run into leaving Pearisburg around 21-22 August heading north, I'm assuming it will still be damn hot down south...anyone from the area have experience that time of year?

I wish it could be 3 weeks later, but it can't! Thanks in advance

It will still be on the warm side. Might get a little nippy at night as you get into September.

Poke around here for some historical data. For mid August, at Waynesboro, around the mid point the avg hi = 84 and the avg low was 63. Records are hi of 96 and low of 35. you could dip to near freezing at altitude for a few hours, possibly, but not likely.

I did SNP in mid August one year, and Maryland in mid August another year. Both were HOT! But, still awesome! Careful with water (sources dry plus drink enough!)

I did Rockfish Gap to the James River in Oct 2007. Temps in the upper 80s every day and no water for 20 mile stretches. I had to come off the trail when I hit the James because I had some serious heat exhaustion. Next year I James River to Pearisburg in Oct and it was the best trip I've had so far on the AT.

In August it will be very hot and very humid. If the Dutch House B&B is still running they do a great job keeping tabs on water conditions.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.
