Please don't steal our ducks

I live in Damascus and right now you will mother ducks with their new babies, about a week old, walking around town. The hiker that took this baby duck has for all intent and purposes killed this little duck. Sure a great many of the ducklings that are around will not make it anyway but for a person to step in and kill this baby is really sad.

I also find it sad that so many of the responders to this thread think it is funny. When did animal abuse become funny, especially to hikers who are more in touch with nature than most people.

I agree. He probably did this simply to kill the duck. But regardless, if I knew who this person was I would keep a very close eye on them, especially if I knew he killed the duck. I'm no PETA person, but think about it. If someone is going to the trouble to steal a duckling to kill it there is something wrong with this person.

Aggreed,now Iv'e hunted and trapped ,but a duckling,well that's just illegal,theres got to be more to this story.Lets not have the guy mauling a baby duck till we know what happend,he could have takien it to the vet ,cause it got hit by a car.There is know way to know ,with-in this thread.

Any proof it was a hiker, or was that just assumed? Regradless, I have a hard time believing the story. To catch a wild, baby duck in one's hand is remarkable enough, but then stuff it into a pocket? Then not be able to catch or find this person later? It's not like they can hide in a crowd in Damascus!

To close to home. Time was that 18-20+ year olds either got drafted or enlisted. We were able to do our stupid stuff in places like Tiajuana, Hong Kong, Olongapo, Singapore, and other foreign ports of call / foreign bases. Thankfully, our stupid stuff didn't follow us home. I've done a lot of stupid stuff, but not with a duck.

They will come to you if lead by their mother who thinks you may have something to feed them. This person that was seen with the baby duck may not have been a hiker but hikers, especially young male hikers do have a certain look about them. Just try to give a discription to someone of a young male hiker, thin, with lots of hair and a beard and worn clothes. I don't really think the person took the baby duck to kill it but he has almost for sure caused it to die. Also, this person is very lucky that my wife did not see him because the hunt would be on !.
