Finishing a 40 mile section in Hot Springs, NC - Where to Stay in Hot Springs?

Hi! We are looking for a recommended hotel to relax for a night after the hike. Want to take advantage of the hot Springs too. Thanks for any recs!

I've stayed at the Iron Horse Station twice. Highly recommend it. The bar downstairs has good beer, but the food at the Smokey Mountain Diner is both better and cheaper. Heard good things about the Spring Creek hotel, as well, but don't have any personal experience.

There are several good hostels in town, but for a hotel I'd second the Iron Horse. They have a nice restaurant and bar with great local brews on tap also. They're on the northern edge of town, just before you cross the French Broad and railroad (hence "Iron Horse").

Try to have lunch at Hemlock Hollow near Allen Gap. Beautiful front porch dining on Paint Creek and then drive the rest of the way up Camp Creek Bald and do some day hiking on the AT up there. Check their hours. They are not open all the time. Second on the Smokey Mountain Diner. Have fun.

My wife and I stayed here for our 30th anniversary, after our 30-mile hike from Standing Bear Farm a few years ago--

We'd certainly recommend it.

Don't forget a reservation in the hot springs themselves, right after your hike!

Saw a brand new hostel, right adjacent to the AT where it comes into the south of town -- The Laughing (something), where the Catholic hostel used to be. Also has private rooms, sorry I only walked by and don't know anything else about it.

+1 on Springbook Cottages... I stayed there in early May 2010 and really liked it, the cottages have a creek flowing right behind them, they are within walking distance of everything in town.... you have lots of privacy with your own cottage.

Elmer's can't be beat. Stayed there 2 nights last year; staying there again for a night later this month.

IMO the only place to stay is with Elmer at the Sunnybank Inn; very old, gentle place where everyone eats together family style. Sunnybank is one of my fondest memories of being on the AT.

Sunnyback was great and the food was fantastic. Plus it was fun poking a stick at the ideologues.

I stayed there. it is a decent and clean local motel. I zeroed in Hot Springs and wanted private accommodations, so it worked well for me.
