I am headed that way but not until about June 2 or so. Is that too l late for you? I did about 400 miles or so last summer. I am planning to start at the North line of GSMNP and head north (or somewhere around there)

We are planning on the 11th for 8-10 days. Checkout my post Standing Bear to Erwin. You can drop off at several points if needed.

I'm in Knoxville, and I'm doing Springer to as close as I can get to Fontana starting on the 28th. that may be too far after your desired departure date, but I welcome company assuming we can keep up with each other.
