It's simple, air is free because it's all around us. If everyone had a bubbling spring in their yard that would greatly reduce the price. We don't just pay for water, we pay for the convience of obtaining the water and having it piped into the important areas of our homes with the insurace that it's safe. And it is safe. A lot of complaining about society and its costs, but in my view, we got it so, so good. Life is good

But even if we didn't need it, such as the case with these oxygen bars, that's only because our free enterprise system enables us to take advantage of idiots And in my opinion that's a good thing. Hey if you can make a buck off some idiot, more power to you.

The closest we've come to paying for air is paying to remove the crap from it. Just ask the Chinese folk spending all kinds of money buying air purifiers to remove the pollution in their homes. It has become an industry in itself.

Oh, and scuba divers, fire fighters, hospitals, EMT's, pro sports teams, and the all important and lucrative elderly ex-smoker medicare market.

Oops, forget I said that last one....or the second one...or the third one...or the forth one. So just scuba divers and pro sports teams.

Just to be a pain I'm going to state the context of my statement was for normal breathable air.

Dang, with the mention of scuba divers I was gonna bring nitrox into the mix. Into the mix, get it, I almost made half a punny.

Not being a pain...then that would limit it to scuba and scba tanks, both use normal breathing air, filtered, but unmixed. pro sports teams would be using pure oxygen, and deep sea divers use exotic blends like helium to help prevent nitrogen embolism and nitrogen narcosis, so that would be excluded...if we stay within your context.

How much does it cost nowadays? I use my bike pump to fill my car's tires.

BTW, you're not really paying for air; you're paying for the ability to put the air in the tire under pressure.

so do elderly ex smokers have a right to oxygen if they need it to live?

you should probably ignore that question, or just ask me in what context.

ok ignore last post you already beat me to the punch lol.but the input of our water being safe is kind of like saying that your money is safe in the stock market, what seems safe today might be gone tomorrow, and perhaps at no fault of your own.

except your money is in fact not safe in the stock market. it SAYS so when you start investing. thats what always made me laugh about what happened a few years ago. people en masse acted as if something they were told was not a guarantee actually was supposed to be guaranteed.

How true this is. Kinda like stashing your money underneath your mattress because your afraid the bank might not have it one day. It really wouldn't do any good because whats to stop a representative of the government from getting on TV one day and holding up a $20 bill in one hand and saying see this, this is no good anymore. Sorry. Then holding up something totally different in the other hand and saying see this, this is all thats good now and we're the only one that has it. Sorry.
