Default Where are you headed this weekend?

Meant to post this in general but it ended up in Straight-Forward, and I couldn't figure out how to delete the post. Anyhow, I figured with the long weekend a lot of people will be out hitting the trails. I am headed to Estes Park around Long's Peak in Colorado. It will be my first time hiking in the Rockies and at elevation so I am really excited. Where else are people headed to take advantage of the 3 day weekend?

Supposed to be heading to Standing Bear Farm on Sunday and hiking back to it from Devil Fork Gap. Right now I'm at the ER with my mom so who knows?

The Mrs. & I are taking her 2 children, Mackenzie-14 and Clifton-10, on their 1st Backpacking trip. The grueling, nut busting force march up the Housatonic River between St. Johns Ledges and Rt. 4. Between... not up or down, the Ledges....and we are going to RUN and take all 3 days to do it. The erie wailing sounds coming from Stoney Brook Campsite, Saturday and Silver Hill on Sunday.....that will be someone in our party.....maybe me. HYOH

I'll be out paddling all weekend on the lower Potomac and surrounding marshes - will probably do an Old Rag run on a day off next week.

That's awesome - have fun, Josh. Longs Peak by 2016 is an important personal goal for me. I will probably head to Mt. Lafayette or Lincoln. Depends on tomorrow morning's forecast. May do something shorter depending on that.

Just got outta the hospy a week ago, so this weekend is gonna be low-key. My big plan is to test some new gear in the backyard tonight. It's a bit warm to try the new silk liner in my 25 degree down bag, but my Quarterdome T2 hasn't been set up anywhere except in the living room so far. Now if I could just pry the cat off of my camp pillow, I'll be set...

First, I'll give my brother a call. He's in the air guard and was stationed in Iraq back in 2006 as a medic at the Belad Airbase hospital. He did not see combat, but he certainly saw the effects of combat....... Figure the least I can do is call him.

After that? I'll be driving down to New Mexico and going to the Pecos Wilderness. Fell in love with the place last year, and can't wait to return.

Above tree-line ridge walks, alpine lakes and mountain wildflowers. What's not to love?

You aren't doing Longs are you? Still a technical route even in this lower snow year. Two of my buddies and I are doing an overnight in two weeks using crampons and ice axe. Be careful....

HEre is Longs Peak about two weeks ago from Twin Sisters. Last weekend it SNOWED at 7500' or so feet when I was out hiking. Can only imagine what it did at 14k!

Don't know what your plans are, but Twin Sisters is a nice hike in its own right with great views (like above!)

The TH is perhaps 15 minutes from the Longs Peak TH.

If you are willing to drive less than a half hour from Estes, Oskar Blues in Lyons, CO is a killer brew pub. Much better than anything found in Estes Park IMO.

I'm at work all weekend. Food service has what I like to call reverse holidays.
Are Chicken Ankles really what it's all about?

My three and eight year old daughters asked me to set up the Tent in the backyard tonight. This will be the three year olds first night in a tent. Hopefully do some kayaking tomorrow after the required graduation attendance for my nephew. Have a good weekend everyone.

Going to Petosky MI. May cross paths with the NCT at some point. Otherwise, will drink where Hemingway got drunk.

I'm not headed out until Monday, but I'm headed from Springer to Fontana Dam... A little longer than a weekend trip.
