Default Newbie looking for a good starter trip

    All,

I've greatly enjoyed reading through the various threads here ... learned a bunch already!

I'd like to head out on my own for a few days of "introductory" AT hiking in the Northern VA, WV, MD area. This will be my first solo outdoors camping/backpacking outing so I want it to be somewhat user friendly for a newbie. Seems like perhaps parking my car in Harper's Ferry and catching a shuttle in either direction would give me a good taste of the AT, any tips or ideas?

    Thanks

How about from Linden, VA north to Harpers Ferry? The terrain is pretty reasonable and there are a few road crossings for resupply.

You could just hike Maryland, about 40 miles, or do something in southern PA...I don't care much for the Maryland section so would recommend something like Pen Mar to Fayetteville, etc...

Very good place to start. I suggest south from there, as it is one of my favorite sections.
