article said hes from maine, too. maybe thats why SARs get pissed when they have to go rescue someone from an established campsite, with acess to ffod and water(and map).
there was a show on discovery channel which followed ME rangers enforcing rules. one show had them involved in a rescuee attempt for an older man who maintains a part of the AT near Grafton Notch. they spent all night searching, got a call in the am he had walked out on his own.
in this instance, the rescue team didnt feel put out in any way(maybe it was the camera rolling), they were just glad he was safe.

Terrible news - heard it first on the radio this morning. These are brave people who give a lot for the safety of others. Very dangerous work.

Drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway and also through the GSMNP yesterday and noticed all the flags at half-staff. Asked a ranger, who said it was for this fallen ranger.
Best to his family ... and all rangers.
