    Re: Monster Stoves Zelph,
I'm considering taking your advice and selling Stoves outright on ebay and possibly website If I can figured that whole thing out
I have designs on a machined modular stove system inspired by the mini atomic, but that will require some bigger toys. In the mean time I'm set up to make the designs I showed you previously as well as Cobalt/BIOS style design and possibly the Super Stove but with the budlight sized base (I figured out the a method by accident).
Very few designs are truly original nowadays and most if not all of the popular stove ideas have been inspired by you guys in one way shape or form.
I would very much like to avoid any animosity between the two of us and the other stove guys if I can help it. So I thought I'd start by asking for your blessing before I really pursued things.
I would have no problem referencing your name in the title of either or something like that. I have no desire to take credit for your original idea.
Also, I doubt I would be in direct competition with your stoves as a plan to focus my efforts on Climbers, Bikers, and Hammockers. Nor do I plan to get into cook pots.
    Thoughts?

Securing a patent for an alchy stove? It's not worth the expense.

A recent article in the NY Times found that (starting in the 1990's), for most companies, patent litigation outstripped patent profits. Plus, they discovered patents are typically worth less than $10,000. The cost/benefit just isn't there.

So, sitting in a garage crashing aluminum beer bottles into alchy stoves best remain a hobby.

Business is business. You didn't spend the money to patent anything so you have no intellectual property rights. The fact that this guy has a little bit of conscience doesn't change that.

When a U.S.publisher started selling Tolkien's books as public domain, because of a copyright glitch, Tolkien put a label on the legitimate copies saying essentially: Courtesy, if nothing else, would suggest you buy a copy of the book authorized by its author. Perhaps you guys who design stoves should put such a label on your stoves.

I ran into a patent attorney at a hut in New Hampshire during my thru-hike. I asked him how hard it was to get a patent. He said anyone can get a patent, but it was really hard to get a good patent.

By good, he meant "well written". He said most of his work was litigating the badly written ones......

I gave free stoves to a lot of people, and SoulSurvivorX2 was a good choice for many reasons.
    • They have a large number of views and subscribers.
    • Cindy has good speaking skills, and she doesn't stutter.
    • They edit their videos well.

I don't have any control over the videos these people make. I recognize that some people might be offended by the fact that Cindy looks good, but there's nothing I can do about it. As far as I can tell it was a good video.

So cabbagehead didn't patent his stoves. It's ok to produce his design and sell them here and other places. I can give away lots of free stoves to female hikers, a few to the youtube lady etc. The stove could be named "cabbagehead stove"

    Everyone ok with that?

Don't really care,it just dosen't make me want to buy a stove.Yes they are nicely put together videos, and she does speak very well, the quality of the stoves looks good, but again, don't really care, dosen't affect me either way, cause I ain't buyin it.Look lets not not beat around the bush here,ya sent her stoves in hope that she'd advertise, her hits are high,it's what you wanted, there I said it,again don't care, cause I'm not buyin one, made my own,not as nice as yours with the rolled edge, but it works, and I didn't have to pay the price,I do wish your bueisness well,I'd never wish a person to fail, but if you do,it won't be because of what Ive said here today.cheers cabbage head

I am reminded of an interview with John Carpenter where he tells the story of Rob Zombie contacting him,and telling him he was doing a remake of his movie "Halloween" Carpenter said to him," So...what the F*** do you want me to do about it"I thought it was a beat move.

I'll buy a couple Zelph, but only if you don't make a video of you showering.

    Alright!!!! We have approvals.

I agree, no showering video, no skinny dipping

The stoves will be named after "Cabbagehead" and each stove will be lettered with his name.

I'll start off with the budlite bottle version and then do the venom energy drink next.

Thanks. I also encourage you to go into town, pick up some cabbage, and cook it on your stove. It's best to eat most or all of your cabbage near town because it has a lot of water weight.

Let's see, if I got this right.

Before patents, there was no right or wrong.

If no lawyer, then there is no reason to stop.

No one has any reason to not affect the income of another.

It is not important, at all. It doesn't matter. What's your problem?

Thank You!!! for the encouragement to make and sell your stove design and also to go into town for the cabagge. I'm going to do both but I will conserve fuel and turn the cabbage into sauerkraut. It retains moisture and can be eaten cold along the trail. Sarbar has some good sausage recipes. She also sells the White Box Stove we are currently talking about as a popular knock-off stove.

    I looked at the links.

I found the orginal White Box stove on eBay.

Is that for real? The eBay original White Box Stove ad shows he has sold 8,000 with the price at $20.

I would call that income, not hobby!

He insists on calling it a Cottage Industry.

He started out selling them at $10.00 each on www.bplite.com

Geez. $23 for a cut can?! More power to him if people are that clueless to pay it.

It is a cottage industry, as long as the person making it is selling it.

Nutbrown, I cut my hands when I try to cut those cans.

I am not a total clutz either. I can make other stuff.

I would like to argue that $23 is fair and maybe even under-priced. These stoves are durable, lightweight, quick to prime, and more efficient than many others.

Let us not complain about how much money this guy is making, and instead complain about how much money other people make. The Facebook guy used to make almost $2,000 per second. I think he still makes more than $1k/s.

I disagree about quick to prime and more efficient than others.
