    Does anyone have a guide on where you can buy ammo along the trail? As far as the Rabid Squirrels, I think if you shoot a couple of them, the word will get around and you may not have to kill all of them. The ticks on the other hand have very little brains. We're going to need a lot of ammo!!!

    From Virginia, south just about anywhere except schools and a library, and a couple churches. Going north from there in PA ammo at any Wally World, and bait store except the 3 weeks leading up to deer season. In NJ and NY find a mobbster, beyond that ask a local.

    apparently the hits here are not about hiking....
    There was an Old Man with a owl,
    Who continued to bother and howl;
    He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
    Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl.

    Ya all are funny. The weight of the model 28 is too much for us old fellows to haul. And the hauling was before I brung the dog. Used to cast a 178 grain. Forgot the tin count. Ran 2400 13.7 grain Winchester case. Black Bear Load is what I used to call it. Never had to drop the hammer cause I was never that god damned hungry and the thief was always after the pokey bait anyway.

    Leave it to the humor threads to have all the good advice, that hammerless design looks nice. Do you have it in .38sp or .357?
    It's called "Lyme" disease, not "Lymes" disease! (Hint: There's only one Lyme)

    If you read the AT related book Eight Bullets, the incremental weight of number 5 might seem a reasonable choice .

    On my first Kuwait to Baghdad thru in 03 I carried an M249 Saw and 300 rounds. Damned if I didn't have to resupply a few times, especially after our zeros in An Nasiryah and Al Kut. Weight wasn't an issue because we slack packed a lot, so towards the end of my hike I upgraded to an M240G. Liked it so much I started my 04 thru with it. Then I got the UL bug and dropped down to an M16A2 with 300 rounds and an M9 Beretta with 95 rounds. That wasn't the AT though, and the wildlife was a little more aggressive. :P
    May your mileage always be higher than your post count.

    What we all have to know is "Did you hang your food?" and if so, "from what?"
