Default Macabi skirts, can you recommend?

I did a search on here and did not see much about them. Have you hiked in one, or know someone who has? Please tell the pros and cons. Thanks!

I have seen them and have a friend who wears one. They are interesting, but personally, I think they are too long and heavy. I know they can be tucked to shorten, but I prefer the mens' Mountain Hardwear kilt. It is longer than most womens' skirts, yet light enough to be comfortable. The biggest pro for the Macabis are their modesty.

I've worn one since the 90's that Carol gave me. I did have it shortened to knee length though. That makes it darn near perfect.

I bought one, and love it for day hikes. It's a bit heavy to take on the trail. Thinking about shortening it, but it's also very large around. It has an elastic waist, so I can still wear it, but if I were thinking of using one on the trail, I would go with the shortest one, and a size smaller. It does hitch up well into sort of short pantaloons for stream crossings and just to keep cooler.

Ditto what Blissful said. Awesome, comfortable, quick drying, not too short, not too long.

What are the advantages of a skirt over shorts? Are there any? Or just style?

Over being instead of, not on top of.

I would love to wear a skirt, breezy much easier when you have to pee, but in the interest of preventing Lyme disease I wear long insect shield pants.

I love hiking in my skirts, because they are easier to pee. Last summer, we were backpacking in the Chattahoochee National Forest. When I had to go take my nightly before-bed pee, I had JUST pulled my shorts down to do my business when I heard growling behind me. I don't know what it was, but it didn't sound friendly. It took way too long to get my shorts up & get out of there!! My hubby likes to say it was a rabid squirrel... but it had a much deeper voice. I decided after that trip that I would always hike in skirts.

I wear Patagonia & North Face running skirts that are moisture-wicking. They have the compression boy short underneath, but I cut the crotch out & used my handy dandy Serger to finish the seams. I wouldn't go back to shorts for anything!
