I've been working on my schedule and trying to get free that weekend. It doesn't look like its going to happen. Maybe another time, but have an awesome hike!

Tazo...When the weather cools there's a 41 mile loop hike out of Demascus I plan to do with a mixed company group from the Birmingham area. I'll try to remember and post a notice when the time comes so you can join us if you would like.

I am interested for next year and 2013 (hoping to attempt a thru in 2014). I have completed VA from Rockfish Gap north, except the section from Jarman Gap in SNP to the side trail to BlackRock hut. My friends and I decided not having water sucked, so we dropped down to the Moorman's river trail, which is the original route of the AT anyway, but I do still want to snag those 12 to 13 miles. I would love to hike with other slow but get-er-done hikers.

I would also be interested in joining this special band of women. I live in Harpers Ferry and was hoping to start getting some sections of VA done in the near future.

    SDDavis,

Thanks! I would really appreciate that! Would this be a weekend hike? 41 miles sounds a bit long for a weekend unfortunately with my job I am limited to weekends. Maybe I can do part of it with the group?

Hi ladies! I live in Linden, VA (just east of Front Royal) and want to section hike as much of Virginia as I can this year. I'm starting with Harper's Ferry to home on September 3rd. I'm slow so I'm thinking of allowing 4-5 days for the trip. If you would like to join for part or all, let me know!

I would love to do a week anytime in 2013. I live in Kansas and my backpack experience has been in Colorado. I am ready to spend some time on the AT. My husband and I are going to do 1 week together out there at some point next summer. But I would love a girls trip as well. He will go back to colorado to mark another 14ner off his list and I think I will head back east if I can find some ladies to join. Keep me posted, at this time my 2013 dates are pretty flexible.

    Tazo,
My husband and I have plans for several weekend hikes in Virginia during spring and fall of 2013. We're in east Tennessee. We've done south of GHP, about half of SNP, and nothing else in the state. We're in our early 50s, and find 30 miles for a 3-day weekend to be a challenge. If we can help, let us know.

    Hey ladies!
The interest has been great and I see many exciting hikes in the future. Unfortunately I took a spontaneous hike last weekend and blew out my knee (still got about 17 miles of breath taking miles in!). It looks like I will be on crutches for a while, but am hoping to return to the trail asap! Illabelle, weekend trips would be great! Sixfizzle, Sept 3rd is a bit too soon for my recovery but am I hoping to get in at least one more hike before the snow flies!

    Thanks all!
    Tazo

The hike I'm planning will take the Iron Mt. trail to the AT and loop back to Damascus...41 miles total. I'd be curiuos to know how the temperatures were on your hike this w/e.

Tazo...here's wishing you a speedy recovery. It's good to see the hiking interest that's being generated by the ladies here.

My hike ended up being much shorter than anticipated! My dog was enjoying some free time at Saunders shelter, took an amazing leap over and down the trail leading to a water source, and completely busted the landing. He started limping a few miles later so we bailed to the creeper, spent the night, and then took a slow flat walk back to Damascus. The weather was sunny and hot (mid to upper 80s maybe?) but water was easily available. We had thunderstorms last night, and the weather has been nice today with the temp in the lower 80s (I live about 20 miles from the trail). There were a handful of other hikers out but not as many as I had anticipated given the long holiday weekend. Hope this helps - enjoy your hike!

(PS - the dog is fine )
