Didn't I just see where the Malaysia Airlines and Immersat Corp. were going to release the transponder signals and their analysis? Probably wishful thinking on my part but I can't help but wonder if Maine S&R wouldn't benefit by running Inchworm's cell phone signals through the same analysis.

Is the new search for Gerry Largay still on for this week?
I was gonna extend my vacation and head up there. But after reading their site, I would have to be in near thru-hiker shape. Didn't think I would have been much help. My hats off to all those that volunteer.
Hope the search brings an end to the uncertainty.

I give huge props to those who put the effort out there trying to bring Gerry home!

Lone Wolf's gotta a point. Seems like trained dogs would cover a lot more ground.
One example:
In 2011 near Swatara SP in PA a hiker (non-professionals walkin' around in the woods) noticed an abandoned camp just off the AT down a steep drop off and reported it to park officials. Park rangers investigated and discovered the remains of a man missing for 2 years.

Short story on a new search in todays (06/18/14) Bangor Daily News. They didn't find anything.

SAR and those in charge of these searches serve a very important role. That being said they're normal people like you and I. A few of my friends are SAR and other than map and compass skills there isn't anything exceptional about them other than they selflessly will drop what they're doing and go hunt for computer jockeys like us They all deserve a pat on the back. The point is don't disempower yourselves into thinking you can't help. Small teams of non-professionals find people all the time. In some ways we can be more effective. We don't have to obey anyone 'in charge' of a search for one. If anyone wants to join us there are two unofficial searches that will be conducted later this summer. One in July and another either July or August. Fortunately, in my opinion, these searches will actually cover new area that as far as we know has been quite untouched by previous searches (unlike this recent search). Anyone interested give me a shout. Namaste
