From what I read the Blueberry Patch is only open for early thru hiker season and closes by May 1. We will be hiking after that. Any info on the Hiawasse Inn or maybe now its the Budget Inn in Hiawassee? One other question: Is it a good plan to stay at the Hiker Hostel the night before we leave and have them shuttle us to Springer? Just don't know if I am able to leave my vehicle at the Hiker Hostel for 4-5 days? Also will need a shuttle back there from Blue Ridge Gap after. I have emailed the Hiker Hostel to ask their opinion as well.

I left my vehicle at Hiker Hostel for 4 nights back in 2008, no charge as I stayed there on the front and back end of my hike. When I stayed with them this past April, there were a number of vehicles in the parking area. I definitely recommend staying there the night before you start your hike and get a shuttle with them. Truly GREAT hosts!

+1 for Hiker Hostel. Breakfast is included in your $18 a night and is phenomenal! Beautiful, clean, comfortable place.

Then you need to use a hammock. The GA section of the AT is very hammock friendly.


Joyce and Sally are great ladies if you need shuttle service.


Don't forget Ron Haven's hotel in Hiawassee, very hiker friendly.

Hiker hostel is an awesome pace to stay. Josh and Leah are great.

Wife and I stayed there just Friday night (3 days ago) and gotta agree. Truth be told, we opted for one of the fancy private rooms.

One hint if using GPS to find the place: For some reason, Google Maps or whoever simply choked on the street address. But using the name "Hiker Hostel" instead of the actual address worked like a charm. So weird, but good to know.
