    Default Georgia Section Questions

You guys from North Georgia, I need your help. I finished the first section, Springer to Neels Gap last
September and want to do another hike this September. I have been trying to do searches to find the information I need, but haven’t been too successful. I want to finish Georgia, but I had surgery for torn meniscus in Feb, and that may be too much this time although I have doing great, only a little pain. Here are my questions.

After starting at Neels Gap, where is the first road crossing and could I park a car there. If decide I want to finish GA, where is the first place I can leave the trail and where could I park close to there. I know I could go SOBO and leave a car parked close to Neels, getting shuttled to the starting place. This may be the best solution, but I just don’t know. Thanks

you can park at Tesnatee, Hog Pen or Unicoi gaps in that order going north. Note, the descent from Blue Mountain to Unicoi is hard on the knees.

Here is a link copied without permission from the Georgia A.T. Club website. It is a map of the A.T. in Georgia and also shows all the road crossings. Googling GATC will bring up the club's website as the first listing.

    Good luck, JB

The Georgia AT club website has a great plan for finishing GA. in 10 sections - each one a day hike.

Thanks for the information so far. But if I can finish GA and I think going SOBO is better so where in NC can I be let out by shuttle?

Deep Gap. Just shy of 7 miles north of the GA/NC state line.

Hey Freedom Walker! I lost track of when you were planning your trip. I will be catching a shuttle from Atlanta to Deep Gap NC Saturday Morning (Sept. 24). Let me know if I can help. I'm sure Survivor Dave won't mind a side trip.

So if I go in on the AT at Deep Gap, what mileage mark is it at there?
