Hi Brian,
I made hammock tubes (snakeskin like) for two of my hammocks. I would recommend cutting two rectangles off the end of silnylon, 60 inches wide. Each rectangle is about 6 inches long and is sewn with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving a diameter a little less than two inches. It works very well. If you want a little larger tube, easier to pack, then each rectangle can be cut about 9 inches wide and it is simplicity to pull the tube over the hammock. Thread the tube over the cord inside out. Attach the tube with a plastic zip wire tie. Then pull the tube rightside out over the hammock.
