Default Posting rules for this forum

We have come to the conclusion that the best way to handle the selling gear forums is to allow a 30 day limit on the gear that you are selling. (The calendar date will be used to determine "30 days", so if you posted on 1/1/06, then on 2/1/06, you're item will be deleted if it has not already been done due to previous sale.

If you item should sell before the 30 day limit, please make an additional post for your item, noting that it has been sold. This will allow the moderator to quickly identify items that can be deleted, before their time limit.

After your post has been up for 30 days on gear that you are trying to sell it will be deleted. You will have to repost it if you have not sold it, and still wish to sell the item(s).

The reason for this is to weed out the forums so we do not have gear that is up there for long periods of time and has been sold.

Thanks for you help and hope your items go to good homes!

Troll, I think you can change a setting in the admin panel to make posts expire after 30 days in a single forum. That way the regular members won't see them after 30 days and they will look different (expired) to the moderators and admins for that forum so they can easily remove them.

You can not see them because I deleted them all last night.

Yes there are pros and cons to doing it that way also.

Default A Big Thank You!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has posted their items for sale and been kind enough to also list when they are sold. This has been a big help in keeping this forum cleared of clutter. I see that there are several of you who are making some good money, hopefully financing your gear and hiking! Congrats!

As a quick reminder, items listed for sale and not noted as sold, are deleted after 30 days. (which I usually let extend for a few extra days) If you have not sold your item, and it gets deleted, please feel free to list it again, and hopefully you can get it sold the second time around!

Thanks again and Happy Hiking!

I like the idea of this forum and I've both bought and sold gear here. However, I believe you should think about some additional rules for the forum that are in the spirit of a place to bring together willing buyers and sellers. Some people think this forum should be used as a way to advertise their Ebay auctions. It doesn't seem that it's in the spirit of the forum to use it to bring in more traffic to Ebay auctions and to try and get fellow members to "bid up" the price on gear in the typical Ebay bidding frenzy auction style. Over at BPL they have a policy of not allowing advertising of Ebay auctions in the Gear Swap forum, so some sellers have now taken to posting Ebay gear on BPL and linking to their ad here on WhiteBlaze that links to the Ebay sale. To my way of thinking, if you want to sell something on here, offer it for a fair price and sell it. If you want to sell it on Ebay, fine, but don't use this site to drum up auction traffic. Do you moderators have any thoughts on this?

I've been buying and selling used gear on multiple Forums for years. I don't make money, it's just a great way to try gear w/o much expense (especially helpfull on my Social Security). I pass on gear that doesn't work for me and others get the same opportunity and financial benefit. And now since I haven't made a total of 30 postings any potential buyers (and $$$ savings) will be missed by WB members.

In the spirit of the new exclusionary policy I won't mention what I am currently selling but WB memebrs will not have the chance to decide for themselves if they want to save 50% on a very expensive piece of gear.

So, I ask that the policy be reconsidered, let the members decide for themselves what "risks?" they want to chance.

Did I miss something? The sticky didn't say you needed 30 posts. It says you can only list an item for 30 days. Seems reasonable

What about changing permissions so that people who post and sell can delete themselves once item is sold?

You could always become a donating member, then there is no minimum post requirement. Otherwise I am sure you can find other forums to post on for free.

Have a good day.

Donating Members can delete their own threads from within the Buy and Selling gear forums.

Hi, Whats up? I tried to post in used forum and I checked the rules ist. When I clicked the new post button it said I needed 30 posts to qualify! How come? Nothing in the rules about 30 posts. I am not a new member, I just am a quiet member who has only posted one time. I now want to sell. Please advise.
