This stone structure was built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Shelter accommodates 8 roughly. Water is available from spring-fed well on blue-blazed trail (may fail in dry weather). This shelter is named in memory of the first president of the New York Ramblers, William Brien, who bequeathed funds to erect a shelter on the A.T. The original shelter at Island Pond was removed and the name transferred to this shelter on Letterrock Mountain.

A word of caution: As far back as 2001 a rattlesnake has been reported to live in or near this shelter. In June 2007 a rattlesnake was found killed in front of the shelter.
