I ran into Joe at the Hiawassee Diary Queen in early April 2004 during dinner, again at the GA/NC border where we took pictures of each other, and finally at the Muskrat Ridge Shelter where he showed me the JetBoil he was trail-testing. My section hike ended that evening at Deep Gap, while he continued north and eventually finished the Trail according to the listing in the May-June 2005 Appalachian Trailway News.
