Photo Details

Sassafras Gap Shelter is 141.0 miles from Springer, sleeps 14 with its bunk style loft and has a covered porch with sky light. It has been totally rebuilt since I was last there in 2001. It's nice!

Wow.

What an improvement from the old shelter, which I thought was one of the worst along the trail when I was there May 30, 2002.

Good job, people.

I agree. The old shelter and privy were the worst I had ever seen on the AT (June 1998)

Damn - They built a 'porch' on the Old Girl...One of the Worst in Southern Section a few yrs ago...looks pretty decent, now. You don't have to sit on the floor and eat off the floor. Good work, maintainers! KZ@
