This is where photographs falls short. The glacial lake (?) is a bowl surrounded on 3 sides by steep mountains, like an ampitheatre. Stunning. Best to view in full frame size. Glacier NP, Montana, 11/20/04.

Part of the bowl that is Avalanche Lake. My camera wasn't wide enough to take it all in, and really doesn't do the scene justice.
