Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake

Photo Details
Poster: Youngblood  (see this users gallery)

Rattlesnake assumming the position on the edge of a brushy trail as I approached within about 6 feet of it. This was on the Benton MacKaye Trail in June of 2003, in Tennessee on the north slope of Big Frog Mountain in the Big Frog Wilderness. This photo is the 2nd in a series that attempts to show what it can look like when you walk up to a rattlesnake. The 1st photo is http://www.whiteblaze.net/gallery/sh...php?photo=5827 .

Yikes!! Wow, was there anything you guys didn't see on the BMT? You saw bears and boars and now this. I hope we get to see one, I've never seen one on the trail.

I am just amazed at how well they blend into their environment - scary!

Hi, nice snake and nice photo. Just wanted to note that this is a timber rattler, Crotalus horridus, not an eastern diamondback rattlesnake. Diamondbacks do not occur anywhere near the AT.
