Bartram Trail crossing abandoned road

Photo Details
Poster: cabeza de vaca  (see this users gallery)

There are several abandoned rec areas on Clarks Hill Thurmond Lake. The Bartram crosses a road to one about 2 miles above the West Dam area. Further on, the Bartram follows an abandoned road that leads via the Lake Springs Trail to an old building used as a air observation point during the Cold War. The lake is on the Savannah River and forms a useful landmark that could have directed Russian aircraft to the Atom Engery reservation known as the Savannah River Project several miles below the dam and below Augusta, GA. This US government plant manufactured material for use in atomic and nuclear bombs.
