Duncan Ridge Trail - side trip

Photo Details
Poster: Dances with Mice  (see this users gallery)

From Long Creek Falls, continuing north on the AT for approximately one-half mile, a gravel road crosses the Trail.

Left (west) on the gravel road for about 200 yards is Hickory Flats Cemetery. This home-made merry-go-round is located near a covered picnic pavilion at the cemetery.

Have a seat in one of the welded tractor seats at the ends of the horizontal pipe, hold onto the handles, and give it a whirl!

I almost got sick on this thing. This place makes a good first night stop from Amicolola but bring water up from Long Creek Falls. There may be water around but we didn't know nor hear about it. It also has a privy.

Nice place to tent also, with room for at least a dozen tents.

Also a nice place to eat free brownies from Pittsburg and to get killed by moving a 500lb barrel or water off of truck.

The barrel only tried maimed me for life, but probably wouldn't have killed me as one of the cars could've driven me to a hospital.

Water is simply straight downhill behind the privy. Which doesn't sound all that appealling, does it? But it's WAY downhill on the other side of the old AT route, which was still very visible this Spring. Or follow the gravel road from the AT past the cemetery and the stream crossing will be just a hundred yards, more or less, from the pavilion.
