A view of Bald Mountain Shelter, TN north of Big Stamp and Big Bald. 28JUL2005. The shelter is built to accommodate ten hikers on two platforms, one above the other. There is wire mesh below the lowest platform, to contain the shelter mice I suppose. Check out the picture of Princess Leah at this shelter to view the interior. Among the highest shelter locations on the AT, tenting should be discouraged here because of the fragile environment. There is a privy - which the flies love to inhabit - and an excellent piped water source (pictures of these are also posted.) |
