Lots of ways to keep your bum warm in a hammock...what do you use?

I don't. Don't use the hammock in the colder months.

Good point...I should have put in an option for "I only use it when I don't need insulation." I clicked "edit" and I don't think I can add it in, though.
Rock, maybe you could add that option?
Down-filled Air Mattress for colder months, closed cell pad for warmer times, use extra clothing (rain gear or long johns) to pad around my shoulders to keep them warm since DAM and pad are 20 inch wide; use a stuff sack for a pillow to extend the length of the DAM/pad a bit

3/4 length blue ccf pad in the warmer months, Supershelter with 1-1/2" open cell foam pad when it is colder, add the 3/4 ccf pad if it is colder still. Ditched the Hennessy undercover pad, it was useless.

I answered other, but the real answer is never, as I have not yet taken my Hennessy trailside. I'm heading out in 11 days for my section hike through Jersey, and was just curious as to what everybody else was, or was not, using. After years of tenting I figured I should try something new, and am hoping this hammock works out as well as everyone seems to be saying.
60" x 24" blue foam pad with 4 wings attached with duct tape. final result is about the same shape as the SPE. will be experimenting with an underquilt once it gets colder (but that'll be awhile.)
Currently I am using a Therma-Rest Z-lite short and a Wallyworld special-fleece sleeping bag(very light weight and pretty warm). I have used my HH five times backpacking with this set up and I like it. Although I plan on upgrading my bag before my 2006 thru hike.:cool:
this here is what i use,a 24x72 pad cut down to 24x50 ,i got it at walmart
for 14.99,it is 1/4 inch closed cell on one side and 3/4 inch open foam on

I've used a Reflective car window shade inside the hammock and it helps, but would not recommend using in cold (45f or lower). Have see emergency blanket attached to outside, looks like a giant baked potato, but don't know if it works.
Light synthetic bag around my Speer hammock. If that's not enough bottom insulation I use a torso-length closed-cell foam pad inside.
Received my super shelter undercover and pad for my explorer deluxe from Tom at Hennessey just last week. Have not field tested yet looks to be well thought out. I hope it is effective as well.

I have a friend who owns the explorer deluxe, he was concerned about the fit of the undercover (the undercover being to small). Does the undercover fit your hammock well?

Closed cell pad...thus far and didn't need anything else
I am hoping for some really cold nights this winter to try out some new things.
I live for winter hiking and camping and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to use the hammock in winter.
Many winter trips at 6000 feet have put me at ease...
I end up bringing along more stuff than I would in summer obviously but I am still well below what I used to carry in winter when I was using a tent.

1. Nest underquilt by the Jacks
augment with another underquilt (Arc Edge) when needed.
2. CrazyCreek Hammock or Speer Hammock enveloped completely inside
a WM Ponderosa, this system is augmented when it
is super cold with a blue CCF pad inside
3. playing around with a DAM currently, the 26" wide Downmat 9DLX,,,,so far
dont like the heat up time, in using the underquilts the heat up time is
almost instantaneous, with the DAM 30-60 mins so far for it to heat up,,,
solution here is a 1/4 inch CCF (available from Ed Speer)......also even with
the 26" Downmat i get cold-should-wrap, can be solved like HOI with
clothing or Speers Pad Extender or simply adding CCF pads onto the
1/4 inch CCF since it (the Downmat 9DLX) wont fit inside the SPE....
Its all good, its all fun...
just got an early christmas present in the form of the JRB Underquilt and weather shield... sheer heaven... like sleeping in a cloud, without the blue foam pad under me. tested to 40*... going down into the 20s this weekend, so i'll be able to try it even lower. probably will bring a foam pad for the inside, but i love it... i use it with a WM caribou opened up and spread over me as a quilt. i zip the foot up about 12-18 inches to keep it in place. the weathershield kept it all dry even though i was using just the small stock tarp in a torrential downpour.
i use Expand-a-foam in a can....push button and all the cracks are stuffed with the stuff

Just curious about the emergency space blanket. Has anyone attached it to the outside of their hammock and used that solely for insulation? Does condensation build up? Been thinking about trying it out.

Down underquilt
jackie...a large amount of whicking goes on thru the night while yer sleeping. when i add my Z-rest in the winter, i get a mild bit of condensation due to the solid layer...even it breaths per say cause the egg crate little dimples....the space blacket doesn't breath, so any sweat that goes thru yer sleeping bag will pool under you....
this is all theory...but i have been cold enough to use a space blanket, and will never again, the sweat factor is actually dangerous if you ask me. what i mean is, i would rather be frightfully cold than soaking wet with "dew" any day.
