a previous post, little things big difference got me thinking, what is something you took out, maybe for space or weight, for a hike, missed having and is now part of the must have for the next hike.

Mine was a pillow, tried the clothes in the stuff sack, ok for the first night or two, but after that is was a no go. note to self, pillow back in. a good nigh sleep worth the weight/space.

I agree on the pillow. I've tried it several times without and can't do it.

inflatable sleeping pad.

I still take the lightest possible, but there is no going back to only CCF.

Goal zero's nomad solar charger with a switch 8 charger. It weighs a bit more than I would like, but I use my iPhone for so much - camera, reading on kindle app, journaling, etc - that it's worth the extra weight. I figure if I carried a camera, notepad, and a book, I would be about even on the weight.

I missed my iron skillet and Crisco for frying eggs, ham steaks, Jimmy Deans, biscuits and trail caught fish so started carrying it again. Just can't figure out why my back and knees hurt so much when hiking. Maybe my doc can prescribe some pain pills.

do you also find that anything less than an 18 inch skillet is insufficient

Extra food. I always agonize about carrying too much food, but I went on a backpacking trip where I underestimated how much I needed and I was VERY hungry!

Bucket. For multiple purposes:

- Settling tank prior to water treatment. Great for removing grit and floaties.
- Carrying water from the water source so that I can treat at leisure at my campsite.
- Washing socks, dishes or Kevin.
- Having some water next to my stove in case something goes wrong.
