Did Santa bring you any good hiking gear?

I got a Neo-Air Trekker pad. It is the torso-length wide version. I plan to pair this with a CCF pad for my legs.

Also got an Olicamp XTS pot to round out my kitchen. This will be paired with my Zelph Starlyte, a carbon felt disk for a base, and home made hardware cloth pot stand and aluminum flashing wind screen. Looking forward to some test boils.

Nothing, NADA, Zilch. Too many people thinking of themselves this year or the ease to use electronics to send greetings. I sent out 55 cards this year, only have gotten 3 in return.

My husband and I collectively got a Jetboil, a Steripen, and two Therma-rest Trail Pro mats. Although the latter, will probably be exchanged for a Neo-air model. I think the Trail Pro's are going to be to much weight.

Don't worry too much about what I said regarding the size if the Fy Creek, it's definitely a workable tent. I've used one in some truly miserable weather (low 30's and raining) and it held up fine. It's just not that fun to be holed up inside one for 13 hours straight.

Didn't ask for it either but I think I might use it for day hiking or trail running. Pretty decent score IMO, I have gotten way worse well-meaning backpacking gifts.

Lots of wool socks -- Shuttle told my in-laws that I always enjoy getting wool socks, so I get several every year.

And this visor -- done in school colors, with my trail name and my icon ready for all to see as I hike in 2014.
http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=58668&c=531

In 2013 I found that I rarely put on my sun hat, simply because, between tree shade and clouds, I'm rarely out in the sun. So I decided a visor would serve my needs better.

my Mom gave me a new climbing rope - - she's 75 and I'm 29 (um, sorry, 46) - she's been giving
me a new climbing rope every three or 4 years since my real 20s - - she also did all my mail drops
when I thru-hiked in '85 - pretty supportive and great.
Still not sure what I want to be when I grow up . . . .

Man, oh man, was Santa (and everyone else for that matter) good to me this year! Sierra designs zissou 23, a $50 REI gift card, and a couple black diamond carabiners. I also got my girlfriend her first pack, osprey viva 50, kind of a gift for the both of us since now she can come with me! Not to mention all of it was paid with my membership so I get the dividend! And did a mention a second Guyot Gription lid? Definitely not UL, but my FAVORITE nalgene accessory for everything else. Look them up!

Santa must have put us on the "really nice" list this year... I got a Gregory Baltoro 65 to replace the awful, ill-fitting hand-me-down pack I had, and a fleece lined stuff sack I'll use as a pillow. My boyfriend and soon-to-be backpacking partner got an Osprey Aether 60, some dry sacks, stuff sacks, wool socks, and of course the requisite AT cathole trowel. ;)

Just a thought - test it out the month before on a "work out" hike....makes sure you have all the right options turned on and the "insurance" make sure you are familiar with the service... most folks do not check it out and discover angst.
