My father called me today cause he found a suitcase in the closet with my old hiking boots. There was a bunch of other hiking stuff in there too. I thought all of that stuff was long gone forever. Can't wait to see if my feet still fit in those old boots.

I would put them in a shadow box and hang them on the wall in my adventure room. What memories.

What brand? How many pair did it take? Post a gear list maybe.

are they Lemmers? Danners? I started my SOBO in '85 in Danners that made it all the way through VA. I bought a pair of Merrell Wilderness boots (made in Italy) that I finished in in Damascus VA. I still have them but they are dry rotted and just sitting in the basement. I didn't learn about trail SHOES and trail runners which are absolutely my current go-to footwear now for some years. I don't remember suffering that bad with my feet back then though . . . .

For you boot fans - these are pretty much the grandaddies of boots:
I'm a trail runner guy but I do appreciate these (still made by hand in New Hampshire)

I'd love to but not in those old boots.

I'd say either see if they still fit and go for another hike in them, or get them bronzed and put them up on your mantlepiece. That's what I plan to do with my AT boots eventually, bronze them and display them.

Let them sit there and gaze upon them and then begin to write here on this thread: tell us where those boots took you, what happened, your experiences, stories.

Limmer boots! Thanks for memory. Reminds me of an old friend from northern NH who had a pair of Limmers which were one of his pride and joy possessions. Paid a fortune for them. One night during a way to frequent Jack Daniels bender, he stumbled to the wood stove to throw some more chunks of oak in the wood stove and in his drunken haze, threw one of the boots into the fire. Didn't realize it until the next morning when he awoke from his blackout. Unfortunately but not surprisingly, he passed away of liver failure a few years after that.

Hang them in Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap with your name and year you hiked. It's pretty cool to see the names of some of the W.B. thru hikers boots with their trail name and year they hiked.

Burn those stinky SOBs. It's cold outside.

Some of those those boots hanging on the wall at Walasi-Yi smelled worse than me after I hadn't showered in almost a wk when I was thru-hiking.

Who am I to talk though I still have my expensive custom made very dear UL hiking staff I thrued the AT with - a sassafras branch I picked up on the Approach Tr. With tears welling up in my eyes I tried honoring my nephews with it like a king was beknighting one of his soldiers to honorably go forth on a new world journey to explore the far reaches of the Universe but they've all said, "we don't want no damn stick." One day they will understand.

I cried one time when I lost one of my Keen hiking sandals. Hey, I had almost 4000 trail miles on those sandals. It was like losing a good friend. Then, I went back and found that lonely Keen sandal lying in the middle of the trail. I couldn't leave my buddy behind. Never forget it. Don't you absolutely love it when you find that which was lost?

I've never thrown my boots into a fire but I think I've delaminated a few pairs of shoes warming my feet - - sorry about your friend but it sounds like he got is money's worth.
