For those who do not live in NE Tennessee (especially around Kingsport) and SW Virginia, or hiked Erwin lately. Erwin is now home to a Pal's Sudden Service. Probably one of the best burger/hot dog joints in the South.
It's located at:

Yep... that traffic jam caused by people trying to get into McDonalds is no more since Pal's is taking a big chunk of their business.
Load balancing, fast food style. :)
I saw Sudden Service and thought they got a new gas/convenience store
I don't care for pals one bit. And they did a Horrible job at the placement of the drive. People keep blocking the road which makes it hard to get to the dump. ... Haven't heard one good thing from family or friends.
I never ate at one but i will try them next time i am hiking thru Erwin, I have heard that they are pretty darn good from a couple of friends.

Ah.. the dump. Go before 11:00 Am. :) I'm just glad that the traffic jam in front of McDonald's is fixed!

I really enjoyed Hawg N Dawg in Erwin.
Hawg n Dawg is good and friendly. .. Sure do miss the Erwin burrito
I plan on being back in Erwin either at the beginning or end of my next Section hike. Have been going SOBO in the spring and NOBO in the fall, am thinking of switching it up this year, Erwin is easier to get home from than the Smokies.
If at the end of my hike I am sure it will be one of the best hamburgers I ever ate!

Just a half step above McDonald's, just another fast food burger. Definitely not the best burger in the South. Might not even be the best burger in Erwin!

I only wish the Drive-Thru Pal's had Peanut Butter Milkshakes like the walk-up ones.

Well I don't see anything endering about the trail - stuck mostly by a highway (noise) - nice exercise point for a bike... why not use the Kawanis Park on industrial blvd?
