I've started following some of the trail journals for the 2014 AT thruhiker class at trailjournals.com. For some reason, the site frequently says journals have been updated on the day I check in, but when I open the journal, the last entry is often a week or more old. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with that?

If the journal is "edited" and the user signs out then it goes as a daily entry. You can see which journals have been "edited" or "updated" on that same page.

Hmm. I don't see anything saying a journal has been updated versus edited. I'm finding relevant journals by going to the trailjournals.com site, clicking on Appalachian Trail, and then clicking on 2014.

I added a photo to a previous entry and the site listed my journal as updated that day.

I think you can set a delay between when you make an entry and when it posts

people delay their posts. they post on the 16th where they were on the 14th as to not give their exact location :)

Added a piece of gear last night. Checked this AM, no update.

Thanks for the insight. At least I know I'm not going crazy!

Making the change is not enough. You must log off as well.

It took me a long time to realize nothing said "updated today" until I logged out. I am used to simply closing browers when I'm finished.

You hit the nail on the head. I did not realize if you could do that on Trail Journals or not but I do know that is the case with some hikers and that was what I was going to do as well next year for my hike.

Correcting my earlier entry, I logged in, added a piece of gear, logged out, waited ten to twelve hours, found my journal's "last update" date unchanged. Hope that helps.
