I personally like the reflective glow wire that you can pick up at Lawson Outdoor Equipment (http://lawsonequipment.com/Reflective-Glowire-50-Orange-p881.html), or the Kelty TripTease line. The glow wire at Laswon is thinner (2.4mm) vs the Kelty (3mm), yet Kelty claims 50' of TripTease is only 1oz (Lawson claims 1.6oz).

As for line locks, I just use a version of a taut-line hitch.

Another thing I do (based on a lesson I learned from an old-school camping book) is to include some elastic cordage on the guy line. The idea is that if all your guy lines are taut, something's got to give when wind starts blowing against the tent walls (be it in the knots, or tent stake). Once something loosens, the tent walls with start to flap in the breeze. But if you include the right size/length of elastic cordage, you can tighten the guy lines just enough that the elastic cordage keeps the tent walls taut, but the elastic cordage still has a little stretch left in it when the wind begins to blow.

I use something like 1/8" or 3/16" elastic cordage (the really thin stuff in the WalMart craft department isn't strong enough, and 1/4" is too strong). I take a 6" long piece and tie it in a loop at the end of a piece of guy line. I then attach the guy line to tent loops by passing the free end of the guy line through the tent loop and then through the elastic loop. The free end then goes to the tent stakes to be tightened with a taught-line hitch.

I like Zpacks 1.25 mm zline. Lightest I have seen. I also used 50' as bear bag line. Lasted a through hike. No line locs for me.

+1 on the Zpacks line for guy lines and bear bag line. The stuff is as strong as steel and very light weight compared to para cord.

+1 on these two responses.

On my tarp I use orange glowire from Lawson and use a prusik to adjust the guy lines.

Here's a good knot for tent guy lines (http://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/tautline-hitch/).

The zPacks guy lines are incredibly strong and even resist abrasion quite well when tied out to rocks. I probably should replace the guylines on my Hexamid for this year but they held up quite well over a month of camping last year and I was not careful at least a few times tying out to sharp rocks.

That's the one I use on my guy lines. Works really well. :)

I always appreciate some love for the tautline hitch. I also like the Zing-it line, but the other suggestions work too. :)
