How do you store your tent stakes in pack without piercing other gear.

I always roll both my tent poles and tent stakes (ultralight titanium ones, 1.5 ounces for 8 of them) into my closed cell foam sleeping pad. In maybe 100 nights of doing this, I see no ill effect on my pad. I used to use a 1-quart ziplock then finally figured out why not just put them with the poles, done.

Made a tyvek pouch out of a used USPS tyvek envelope.

In a tiny stake sack that goes in my side pocket along with the tent fly that I stuff (not roll) in there. Never had a problem. I like all my shelter components in the outside pockets of my pack.

Shouldn't really need tent stakes unless you have a tarp tent or such. I'd toss them. From deserts, to forest, to alpine tundra I've never needed a stake. Most of the time I just look around for 30 seconds and find a few sticks to insert in the tie-down loops and I spend another minute gathering rocks or weighted material to place on the sticks.

Notes:
1. Don't try this with a family sized tent.
2. This method works even in high, windy, exposed camps.
3. I use a free standing tent (MSR Hubba) which means most people haven't even set their tent stakes before I already have my tent and sleeping gear set up.
4. no limitations to where I can set up my tent because of were I can get a stake in the ground.

I roll them with my tent poles in the small bag they came it. I don't think they would move too much in your bag once it is packed regardless of how you put them in there.

When I ordered my titanium tent stakes years ago, they came shipped in a tiny bubble-wrap envelope. Don't know if this envelope was just intended for shipping or what. It has survived dozens of hikes, but is kinda beat-up and dirty. Still has lots of life left in it. Can't recall who I bought the stakes from? :)

I use the quart zip lock, works okay. Keeps them together and keeps the dirt which inevitabley comes up with them from getting onto other things.

Ziploc freezer bag, quart size. Two bags should get you through an entire thru-hike.

A scrap of tyvek and some duct tape to make a little envelope.
