What iPhone apps do others use for not only navigation but information while on the trail?

Weather app, both for day to day weather and by the hour weather. It helps to know what the weather will be like for the next few days AND the next few hours.
Sports scores app, simply because I can't stand not knowing sports scores. Before I got that app, a typical night-time conversation with Shuttle would be, "Hi. Did the Phillies win? How was your surgery?"
Similarly, news app, so I know what everybody's talking about.
Camera app, but I suppose every smart phone has that now.
Kindle app, not only for reading pleasure but to have reference books at all times.
I've not used the first aid app, but it's nice to have it so I don't make a mistake due to forgetting my Red Cross training from twenty years ago.

As an amusing aside, I got a cell phone ONLY to keep in contact with Shuttle while I was on the Trail. I upgraded to a smart phone ONLY so I wouldn't have to carry a camera for the one or two photos (usually less!) I take per day. Now I find myself using my smart phone so much on the Trail, I fear I'm becoming the person I used to ridicule -- the one who's tapping on a smart phone the second s/he arrives at the shelter.

Notepad for my journal entry. It can be used with the phone in airplane mode to save battery. Weather, text msg. to keep in touch with family. I don't think you need much navigation on the AT. It is pretty well marked.

If you are willing to spring the $20, the "Pages" app is great for recording your journal. Typing is very easy and each day can be saved separately and permanently. This is convenient when you can't get a cell signal every day to upload and publish your daily journal.

I used an app called Wilderness First Aid ($1.99) in lieu of the added weight of a pamphlet or booklet. As a supplement to my memory and experience ;-)

Backcountry Navigator on Android is pretty awesome. Not really necessary but nice to have to track progress, see what distant peaks are, etc.
Kindle app for reading.
Weather Underground app for weather.
I use OSM+ for street maps offline, don't have to worry about having a signal.

Awol's AT Guide is also avaiable as a pdf for $21 with the book (not sold separately?)
Lots of maps and trail guides out there as pdfs in cyberspace for trails other than the AT as well.

For navigation, I use Gaia GPS. For information, I use AWOL's guide in pdf form. No cellular connection needed for either. If/when I have a cell connection, can email and google and whatever I need for information. I listen to music a bit when in the mood; read using kindle app if in the mood. Also have reference apps for bird and tree identification.

Some apps specifically for the AT:

Guthook’s AT Hiking Guide App: (http://www.guthookhikes.com/apps) Maps, planning info, profiles and so on. For iOS and Android platforms.
Trail Map Magic: (http://www.trailmapmagic.com/Trail_Map_Magic_-_Appalachian_Trail_iPhone_App/Home.html) Another AT guide in app form. Looks to be for iOS only at this point.
Steven Read’s AT topo maps: (http://stevenread.com/project/appalachian-trail-maps-2013) Topo maps for the AT with some basic trail info as well. Currently for the Android only. iOS app may be on the way.
