I made the mistake of checking out www.hammockforums.net (http://www.hammockforums.net) and got hooked on making gear, made two hammocks, snake skins and a tarp so far and ordered material to make rain pants. I've never carried rain pants before due to weight but pants made from silnylon should weigh less than 2 oz so I'll give them a try. If they work out I'll try making a light weight rain jacket, waterproof socks and maybe a pack cover. I may have missed my calling in life, should have gone to sewing school instead of engineering, it's an enjoyable hobby.

Way to go, DB!! I met Zippy Morocco in PA while section hiking. He made a lot of his own gear. Jackets... etc.. I was impressed! :)

Every winter finds me building a new backpack even though the previous ones work great. Just a bit better, lighter, etc.
