Is the scout a total package, as in everything you need to get started? I'm looking at trying hammock camping but don't want to invest a whole lot until I know more. The scout would fit me, I'm familiar with the specs....just wondering about what it comes with?

Superbugz I replied to your PM. But it comes with everything listed on the site. Rain fly, built in bug net, suspension, tree straps, and stuff sack. Everything you need to get started. For someone just getting into camping/ backpacking a hammock is definitely a great choice and for a shelter you can't beat the price point. The price does include shipping as well.

Shonryu: Is the Scout bottom entry or zip? The Scout is recommended for folks who are 5'8" or less and 150 pounds or less. The bottom entry is currently on back-order at the manufacturer. This is a good deal for the right person. :D

Yes it's a bottom entry.

I will take the scout if something doesn't work out with the prospective buyer... (knew I should have posted earlier when I first saw it. That's how it goes...)

Just to toss in a couple pennies here. I've got one of the Marine Corps packs, they are darned nice packs for hauling heavy loads. Well built and well designed for the purpose. The only problem the Corps had with them is that the shoulder straps as set up from the factory, are not compatible with body armor. They slide off the plate carrier into the shoulder crease and armpit and cut off circulation. Mystery Ranch came up with a pretty simple fix for this, that captures the pack straps and keeps them attached to the plate carrier yet releases quickly in the event of enemy contact and a need to dump the pack fast. This is not a problem however if you aren't wearing body armor.

The packs are heavy though. No ultralight gear here. But if you need to carry a heavy expedition load out, this is a great deal.

Thanks icemanat95 for the information. I'm sure it will definitely help someone in making a decision. :)

x2. I have one as well and even though it's overbuilt, you can't beat it for the price.
