Mileage for 2014

Would someone with a 2014 AT Guide or Thru Hiker's Companion tell me the total mileage for the trail this year. Thanks in advance.:D

2014 SOBO Guide has 2185.3 miles from Katahdin to Springer

I always wonder where the mileage changes, any way to find that out? Where'd that .6 miles go?

Rerouting of the trail, straightening out a curve or two and you get .6 of a mile. The only way I know to find out is to compare this years book with last years and you will find out where the changes were made.

This may be the first time the trail has gotten shorter. When I summitted Katahdin in 2005 the sign read 2100 miles. Of course the sign was replaced like a year later.

I believe an earlier thread mentioned that a section of the AT had been remeasured & dependencies were noted. That shortened total distance. I'd bet money that only the 'official mileage' has lessened. I doubt it is actually shorter than before.

The trail is actually .3 longer in 2014 due to reroutes. There was a correction in VT that had been overestimating the trail by .9 for years.

The mileage in Connecticut that was wrong for many years was discovered by Hudson of Bearded Woods Bunk n Dine. So many hikers remarked to him that the mileage was off, Hudson got the club to remeasure and correct the mistake.

Of course, everyone knows SOBO's are tougher and the hikers are way more BA :)

kidding! I was just referencing which book I was reading it from, not that the NOBO version would be any different.

if it is not the milage, it must be the elevation, apparently Katadin is about 200,000 feet lower than springer and nobo is all down hill
