Opens March 1. Easy 0.5W from Dicks Creek Gap. Bunkroom with shower & towel $20. Overflow tenting $10pp includes shower. Shuttles to Hiawassee 3X a day free to overnight guests; Shuttles to/from other locations for a fee. Frozen foods, ice cream, sodas and resupply on-site, including fuel. Hot dinner - $10; breakfast items, smoothies, and fresh bread available for purchase. Laundry $5/load. Computer/internet/long distance phone (free). AT Passport stamp location. Guest maildrops: 7675 US Hwy 76 E, Hiawassee, GA 30546

Will look forward to staying there his summer on our section hike!

East and West—Regardless of compass direction, “east” or “E” and “west” or “W” are used as
they are in the A.T. Data Book and the series of 11 A.T. guides: “East” is to the northbounder’s
right and the southbounder’s left, when referring to the Trail.
Now do we need to repeat l/r e/w anyone ?

I agree. A hostel that is 1/2 mile away (which means you can arrive and depart on your own schedule) will have a lot of hikers that prefer that over a hotel that is 11 miles away (even considering the free shuttle and the usual easy hitch to Hiawassee). Even a hotel that is arguably the most hiker friendly on the AT. Location, location, location.

Actually the hostel looks like it may be somewhat uphil from the gap.

U.S. highways that are even numbered run East = West; odd numbered run North = South.....hope this helps!
I agree. WOW free Internet and long distance phone thats worth it, so how much would a shuttle be to Hiawassee for none quest, lets say that I wanted to go into town get resupplied and come straight back to the trail.

I know the answer to that question... they aren't the same person. Sir-packs-a-lot- aka Bob Gabrielsen is the owner.

Sly and Bob "Sir Packs Alot" Gabrielsen are 2 different people.
Sly edits The Companion and organizes the Southern Ruck as a labor of love.
Bob will coach you on how to thru hike the AT via email/phone call/skype/and gear shakedown for only $199.
Kinda like comparing Jack and Warren.

I was just looking for a place to camp near Dick's Creek Gap, on my Springer to Damascus section starting late May. Your location is perfect and I'll be sure to stop around June 1st.

Stayed there a while back and loved the service and the place was so nice and clean with a price that would be hard to beat. Needed new shoes and got a ride to the right place for them, no searching around town like one of the three blind mice. They service many of the gaps with free shuttle service that's hard to beat. I would stay there again if in the area.
