I'm scoping out the path of our Easter weekend hike on Google maps and dropped the little "golden guy" icon on the intersection of Wolfsville Rd, Smithsburg MD and the AT. It street view image shows a hiker at the intersection! When I zoomed in, it's clear this guy is waving to the camera.

Anyone recognize themselves in this picture?

That's awesome he was right there when the camera went by. He even waves as he goes by.

That's one way to have your thru-hike immortalized!

Don't know the hiker, but let me know if you need any help with your hike. I'm out in that area all the time.

You could always join us....or even meet us along the way!

Right now my only real concern is how to get back to the car once we finish at Pen Mar. But I'm rather counting on either DeerHunter or Furlough to have a second car parked there to take care of that problem. I won't know for sure until their plans are set.

But I'd never turn down an emergency contact in the area if you'd like to PM me your ph#....just in case! I'll gladly send you mine if you want to contact us while we're out there!

Did you also notice that there's an arrow that gives the option of choosing the path he is headed toward on the other side of the road. All it does is put you on another road I suppose is where the trail comes out. Strange. Normally they only have the option of turning onto a another road or intersection.

There are two backpackers taking a break on the AT at NC 226/TN 107 (Iron Mountain Gap). Here's a screen shot of them:

To see them, copy and paste this: 36.143463,-82.233118 into the Google Maps browser.

If you go down the road north of the AT crossing sited by the OP, you can see the backpacker cross the road. Here's a screen shot of him:

Teacher and Snacktime: The "little golden guy" is named Peg Man. Thanks for posting.

Does anyone else have some backpackers on Google Streetview? If so, please post!

I have syber hiked most the entire AT. ( I have a computer at work with too much free time). There are too many places to mention. At the points where the AT crosses a mapped road you see many, but if you take the roads into towns you see more hikers on their resupply too. It is a lot of fun doing this but disappointing when out on my section hikes I feel like I have been there before.

Now, that's actually something I'd find comforting. Knowing a place is new, yet still being a little familiar. Especially with a kid in tow, it's fun to point and say "We saw that" or "Remember that?" Our first trip to Harper's Ferry had Snacktime positively bouncing with excitement, and he knew just where to lead us from the train station to get dinner! (priorities)

There's a whole group of hikers and packs sprawled out about a half block south of Joe to Go. Search google for "mountain trail and route 206 branchville nj"
