From some of the comments it said he may have "jumped", not fallen? I haven't been on that section so I can't picture it. I hope it works out!!!

There was a guy who fell off the knives edge in the summer. It would be easy to slip on snow and ice. But if he jumped, he can stay in a psychiatric hospital after being released from the hospital.

Bake Oven has a pretty well defined edge, and a large open area in front of the ledge, so I would imagine it would be rather difficult to accidentally fall off of that one, ice or no ice.

thanks for postiing this link...this area is very close to home.
the rescue was a success! the hiker is now in the hospital recovering and everyone is safe. i have no word on how extensive the hikers injuries are. the story is just being broadcast on the local news this morning.

I hiked through there last year in the rain, alone. It would have been very easy to slip and fall and suffer multiple broken bones. When I reached the shelter itself, I was exhausted both from the physical and mental strain.

Am glad to read they got this young man out.

Thats a real ROCKY section with the snow the rocks could be very dangerous to walk across, the report said he had numerous broken bones, so i figure he was walking across a rock field slipped on the snow and fell on the rocks. Snow and Rocks don't mix well.

Very rocky, very slippery. WAY too much ice up there right now. Hope he makes a full recovery.
