How far is it from the Dam to Shuckstack tower? I need to get in the woods and only have time for a day hike. (Plus the 8 hour round trip driving, but that's another story)

If I'm reading my new GSMNP map correctly, it's about 3.5 miles (but that may be from the very end of the road itself, and not from the Dam). It's no more than 4 miles anyway.
I hiked the GSMNP in April, and remember thinking the hike up from Fontana Dam to the Shuckstack fire tower was not nearly as bad as I had heard/imagined.
Hope this helps. I think there's a chart here on WhiteBlaze that gives all the mileages between shelters, but I'm not sure if it includes fire towers. You might do a search for it and see.

In the ball park of 4 miles OW...straight up.
3-4 hours RT depending on how long you spend at the tower.
