If one was going to hike north from Harpers Ferry starting in early to mid May. What would be the best direction to finish the hike ( thinking weather ) hf to springer or springer to hf.
I'd go north. I usually do a section on the southern part of the AT in late May. the weather is perfect usually....cool at nights with warm (not yet hot) days. If you start and go sobo you could be catching the heat in June and July (or later depending on your pace).

I agree with Lone Wolf. Better to be in northern Virginia in late Autumn toward the end of your flip flop hike rather than the Smokies and Nantahalas -- less threat of snow storms.
