Looks pretty insane. Gotta love the technology and new gear that is out there. Wonder where he keeps all the combs for his beard?

If it is as nice and sturdy as my Kelty Tioga and Trekker, It's a winner.

And what the heck is that gosh-awful sound in the background of the guy at the gear show? Sounds like a large animal is being hurt.

Cool pack. I am a fan of integrated rain covers but still think I would prefer a more simple pack such as the Circuit but the Kelty seems quite versatile. Another plus, the less zippers the better.

Excellent review and interesting pack. Lots of nice features.

its got lots of moving parts and exciting options to fit the need of nearly anyone. does it come with an instructional on how to use it? i see me misplacing gear in it daily. I like the ingenuity of this pack and can not wait to see it up close.

Nice concept. I like roll closures. On the downside there's a lot of fabric due to detachable bag, straps, and buckles, and weighs 3+ lbs.

Now I'm not poo pooing this pack, some neat design features...but my first thought is, I can unload my entire pack in probably less than 20 seconds if I was being timed and really wanted to prove a point.

Glad to see Kelty back in the innovative pack business. I would never watch the first Youtube video posted by that dude, too friggen weird. Nevertheless, the pack is sellling the Kelty 'extras' that being the pad the tent and the bag rather than the features of the pack.
Modular is nothing new, and how does it carry?

I have been watching this pack and would love to give it a try.

I too like the idea of roll tops. This bag seems like a nice melding of features, but too many features for my taste. Probably a better fit for approaches and alpine climbing. Given that I no longer climb (and hang in a hammock at night) I will pass.

I think they were doing a show at a Mohegan Sun Casino. If so, that's a wolf call in the background. I'm a pack nut, every new pack I see I have to get one. This one is no different. Maybe when is goes on sale in a couple of year :)

Tuck-
Looks like Kelty has been reading BPL.
Not in a spot to dig it up, but maybe someone here can if you don't have access-

Bout a year ago they reviewed a guy who had a very similiar concept but a little less feature intense. Basically an internal frame backpack frame with a "packless" system. A few pulls on some compression straps and you went from a 24l to a 60l pack in about a 2lb system.

Couldn't tell for sure, but Will Retfield (SP?) just did an article about using a single center stay in lieu of two to save weight and better preserve mobility. Not sure if Kelty did that or not but reminded me of it.

Looks like a pack that could work very well for some, but likely to be polarizing since it only fits a few styles of packing.

an earlier post indicated a 3lb weight if this is correct its to heavy regardless of the nice features

3 lbs 2oz sm/med 50L; 3 lbs 3 oz med/lg 52L per specs at Kelty website. Nice pack, but all that organization takes it toll in weight.

I'm such a sucker for organization. This pack is so pretty! I'm in love. Lol.

But no... I'll be good and stick to my goal of around 2 pounds.

I believe it weighs less than the Kestrel 48 and and that is a dang fine pack used by many thrus and sectioners so I am a little perplexed at Hayes' comment, especially considering he didn't bother to follow it with "imo". I'm always amused by those comments.

"Now, I don't want to get off on a rant here," but IMO it would be rather tedious to put "IMO" in front or behind everything we say/write, IMO. "Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong." ;)

I am simply of the opinion, that to state whether a pack is heavy or light is subjective and is based only on the judgement of the person making that statement. I take it to be true and proper for that person.

Looking at those packs of the same class (roughly 50-60L with a frame) the reality is that this particular pack sits right in the middle of the pack as far as weight. And so here are 20 similar packs from lightest to heaviest for a quick comparison--

ZPacks Arc Blast 52L -- 16.5oz
ZPacks Arc Blast 60L -- 17oz
ULA Ohm 2.0 -- 29oz
Granite Gear Crown VC -- 34oz
ULA Circuit -- 39oz
Granite Gear Aji 50 -- 41oz
Granite Gear Blaze AC 60 -- 46oz
Granite Gear Leopard AC 58 -- 49oz
Granite Gear Escape AC 60 -- 50oz
Kelty PK 50 -- 51oz
Osprey Atmos 50 -- 52oz
Gregory Z55 -- 55oz
Osprey Kestrel -- 56oz
Gregory Savant 48 -- 58oz
Golite Quest 50 -- 59oz
Osprey Volt 60 -- 61oz
Gregory Savant 58 -- 62oz
Gregory Contour 50 -- 65oz
Gregory Contour 60 -- 66oz
Osprey Aether 60 -- 83oz

This was just 20 minutes of quick research, and I am sure some might want to nit pick the list. But in a PM JustBill summed it best when he told me it was neither light, nor heavy.

In the end, If you think it is heavy, then it is, and if you judge it to be light, then it is. And for each, your milage will vary.

Well after a pesky suspicious charge on the card put off any gear purchase for a little bit, I went ahead and bought this pack. I have been having some fun playing around with it in the house and looking forward to hitting the trail with it in a couple months.

I just ordered one as well. Are you planning on using anything outside of the pack cover for waterproofing (dry bags, trash compactor bags, etc)?

Since I have a hammock set up, and synthetic TQ and BQ that need to be compressed, they are in water proof compression sacks.

Forgot you were a hanger when we talked- in that light this set up likely makes even more sense for you. Best of luck with it and keep us posted as you play with it.
