I really appreciate all the response from my last thread. Very helpful. I really didn't mean to put such an emphasis on miles per day. I guess I've been "over planning" this hike. 'like a little kid on Christmas eve. I am that excited. I'm also a bit nervous. When you want something as much as I do want this hike, you sometimes find it hard to believe that it is going to happen. I know it is still a year away, but to me that is like tomorrow. Time flies. I will bear in mind all that you have told me and continue to train. Next I will probably annoy all of you with questions about nutrition on the trail.

There's a joke that gets tossed around here a lot, the "simple" guide to hiking the AT: show up at Springer with four days of food and a guidebook and start walking north. Sure, it's way oversimplified, but there's a large kernel of truth in there. :)
